Abstract

This research uses a systematic literature review (SLR) to comprehensively examine the challenges that hinder the development of creative thinking in elementary school students in the digital era. The main focus of this research is on the role of gadget use and other contextual factors that influence children's creative thinking skills. An analysis of five recent research journals (2018-2023) relevant to the themes of creativity, technology and early childhood education, showed consistent findings: excessive screen time is significantly negatively correlated with students' creativity. Students who spend excessive time in front of screens tend to experience decreased imagination, problem-solving and divergent thinking skills. In addition, the study also identified contributing factors such as less innovative and interactive learning methods, lack of creativity stimulation in the learning environment, and lack of support and guidance from teachers and parents in developing children's creative potential. The findings highlight the need for integrated and comprehensive intervention strategies to optimize the use of digital technology, create a learning environment conducive to the development of creativity, and enhance collaboration between teachers, parents and students. Further research is recommended to evaluate the effectiveness of various proposed intervention models, as well as to further examine the specific impact of types of digital content and duration of gadget use on children's creativity development.
